The WCGBA Vets Club Championship

Thanks to Jeanette Higham for this report

The Welsh Vets Club championship was held at Brymbo on Tuesday 21st of September. Three teams were involved this year – veterans by age and by experience.

The day was run by President Pauline Lindley and Deputy President Peter Higham and our hardworking referees were Arthur Peake, Alan Davies and Peter Hughes.

The first round of eight games was between Criccieth and Gresford Colliery. Graham Bennett established a strong lead to win his game 21-6. The Gresford team performed well.

For the second set of games, the first set losers Criccieth played Rhos Park. Rhos Park looked confident from the start winning most games in single figures. The closest game was that between Gary Mason and Bernard Goodhead, with Bernard nudging ahead 21-18.

For the final, there were a few changes to the order of players for both teams. Most of the eight games were very close in the early stages. Mike Chamberlain of Rhos had the toughest game. By the end of the Final, Rhos Park won to take the trophy for 2025.
