Greenkeepers Coffee Morning

Report from Andy Peel.

On 10 March 2026, we held our latest greenkeepers coffee morning, this time in the Wrexham area at Llay miners.

The morning was once again jointly sponsored by Sisis Dennis in conjunction with the North Wales area representatives in the shape of Mr. Glyn Hughes from Major Owen of Penrhyndeudraeth and Origin Amenities.

First up was Mr Ben Lloyd from Sisis Dennis, talking through a range of essential maintenance equipment, from mowers and scarifiers to the equally important aeration machines that are available for the upkeep of the bowling green.

We then moved on to Mr John Mooney from Origin Amenities who presented a short but very comprehensive talk on the importance of both topdressing and wetting agents in the upkeep of the bowling green (the demonstration of what a quality wetting agent can actually achieve was a real eye opener for all that were present) before closing with a little on fertilisers and grass seed.

Many thanks to those clubs who attended, Llay miners, Hope, Brymbo, Leeswood, Gresford Village, New Brighton, Connah’s Quay, Prestatyn Highbury. The feedback from those present is that the coffee mornings are most informative, both in knowledge gained and in making new friendships with fellow bowling greenkeepers.
Thank you to Llay miners for hosting, to Sisis Dennis and Origin for sponsoring and to Gaz Tibbetts for organising.

We are aiming to hold further coffee mornings in the future. Time, date and venue to follow.
