David Jones Wins Inaugural WCGBA Beginners Competition

The inaugural WCGBA Beginners Competition, sponsored by NFU Mutual, was held at Llandudno BC  on Sunday 31st August. Attending the event was an outstanding field of  56 entrants, WCGBA Management members Gareth and Judy Hughes, CEO Trevor Clarke, Secretary Paul Daniel, Finance Officer Ged Ironmonger, Tournament Officer Ashley Zepeda and Assistant Simon Walker. President Pauline Lindley also lent her support. Helen Gower from our sponsors NFU Mutual was also present. Referees Arthur Peake and Allan Davies were in attendance for the last 16 of the competition. The Llandudno green was in good condition for the event although the weather could have been kinder with regular rain showers.

There was a preliminary round for 48 players before we got down to the serious stages of elimination. The day was long and hard fought with a high standard of Bowling with results from the Quarter Finals as follows:

So congratulations to David Jones out inaugural winner and Ryan Hughes who both qualify for the BCGBA final on 21 September together with 5 other potential qualifiers pending BCGBA confirmation.

All present agreed that this new competition was an outstanding success and will be held again next year and in the future although possibly with qualifying rounds in view of the number of entrants.
