PRECIOUS METALS – SILVER PIECES…

Following on from my piece about Wales’s Juniors at the BCGBA Junior Ladies and Boys Individual Finals day at Owley Wood on the 6th of September, I have a large slice of ‘humble pie’ to consume.

I neglected to mention the performance by Lois Mae Jones’s sister Awel. Awel played an exceptional first round game against Summer Henning winning 21-10. In the last 16, Awel lost her match a credible 21-19 with Holly Jenkins. Holly was to go on to meet Lois in the Semi final, so she had to beat Awel to get there. Looking at the score sheet, Awel and Lois could have met at a later stage which would have been interesting.

Awel became a brilliant supporter of all the remaining Wales players who were still in the competition, running from Green one to Green two and back to cheer them on.

In my defence. I think I was caught up in the event which I think will become one of the best loved competition days in the calendar, and if future Junior Wales qualifiers are half as good as the ones from 2025,  our country looks set to take the British Junior Ladies title again and to win the British Boys Individual title before too long……..I hope Awel forgives me.
