Referee’s Course

The WCGRS in conjunction with the BCGRS are looking to run a course at the end of the year for aspiring referees. Those who pass would be ready to pick up assignments next season.

The course will consist of a zoom meeting, followed by a face-to-face meeting given by David Williams of the BCGRS explaining of the rules of bowls, duties, dress code and code of conduct.

This will be followed by two written examinations, the first which has twenty-five questions to be answered in 40 minutes with a pass mark of twenty-two, which you must pass before sitting examination two. Those who fail must wait 3 months before resitting the exam.

The second examination, which would be 2 to 8 weeks later, will consist of questions with varying marks for your answers and a pass mark of 125 out of a possible 147. Those who fail must wait 3 months before resitting the exam.

When you have successfully passed you will be awarded your certificate, but you will not be able to officiate until you have passed your practical and green craft examinations. This will be done by the WCGRS assessor at a match.
