Thanks to Jeanette Higham for this report.
The Community of Bagillt , briefly, became the focus of the local bowls world, at the weekend with the re opening of Bagillt green following its closure some years ago and a very neglected and overgrown site.
To return the green to use by the community of Bagillt became a dream for our very own, Linda Williams and a dedicated team of volunteers. They were able to secure Lottery funding towards the project and with the help of Bagillt Community Council that dream became a reality.
Months of work clearing the grounds, work on the green itself and a major renovation to the club house have resulted in a facility to be proud of.
A special Open day was held on Saturday 6th April at the green. The facility was officially opened by the Chair of Bagillt Community Council Alison Locker and supported by members of the WCGBA including President Pauline Lindley and Patron John Percy. Also Yvette Gregory and Brian Renton from the BCGBA. Linda Williams led the celebrations and her passion for encouraging others to take up the sport she loves was very evident in her speech.
There was target bowls for youngsters and advice from seasoned players and Coaches to those who chose to try their hand.
It was heartening to see the wide range of ages attending the Open Day and especially the large number of young people showing more than a passing interest in the game.
Bowls can no longer be seen as an old man’s game and is truly inclusive of all ages and abilities.
Linda and other speakers have empowered the community of Bagillt to embrace the renovated green and to make it thrive and grow in the years ahead.
