The WCGBA Referee’s Society held their annual Stan Higham Trophy event at the St Asaph Bowling Club on 18 April with 18 entries from the Wrexham Flintshire Glyndwr and Gwynedd areas.

The event included newly appointed referee’s as well as the old stagers and indeed it was one of the newbie’s who made his way to the Final namely Dave Goodwin from the Rhos Park club in Rhos-on-Sea.

The proceedings were blessed with good weather although it got cooler as the afternoon wore on.

After the delicious cheese and ham toasties were devoured the Final contestants did battle and the veteran Mr. D T Evans from the Beaumaris Club on Anglesey triumphed again for the third season running but not before young Tom Griffiths and Dave Goodwin gave him plenty to think about.

DT acknowledged his worthy opponents and paid tribute to late colleagues Mel Higham and Don James in his victory address.

Next season the Society is hoping to hold the event at the East Parade Bowling Club in Rhyl.
