Historic Moment for Crown Green Bowling in Wales

Friday the 9th October  2009 was quite a day as Crown Green Bowling was introduced formally into school activities at Denbigh High School.

The first batch of youngsters took to the green with their coaches under the first Schools Link Agreement session and even the sun put an appearance in.

The youngsters aged approx 13 years old were introduced to the sport and soon showed the aptitude necessary to make their way. Their enthusiasm is infectious and everybody looks forward to further sessions during November, weather permitting, and more rigorous sessions in the spring of next year.

The school plan visits to the indoor facility at the Ffrith and the all-weather green at Bodelwydden during the winter term to give the pupils a wide appreciation of our sport.

This development coupled with plans to better organize already existing junior activities represents the WCGBA, s joined-up approach to future improvements to the game at these levels.

The agreement with Denbigh High School follows weeks of discussion with the club and the School flowing from the successful OPEN day at the club in the late summer as part

of the WCGBA club Re-generation programme and will be revised in 12 month’s time.

Any club considering this line of development should be absolutely sure that the commitment of the club, its members, the committee, coupled with the location of the school to the green, meet the criteria required.

Clubs will be committing resources, manpower and goodwill and whilst not all clubs can benefit from this opportunity many can and the WCGBA have a model in place to help.
