A NEW RECORD??

Dave Chadwick of Llanfair PG Bowling Club on Anglesey has probably set a record by being possible the quickest ever to achieve an Instructor qualification through the Welsh Crown Green Coaching Society.

His club are determined to develop the crop of young players they have.  They appreciated that this needed 3 things to happen –

· Someone wanting to attain the qualification and to go through a process of learning, practising and assessment

· That this would cost the club £100 paid to the Coaching Society to cover all phases of this qualification process.  The important point is that the Club were able to recoup this through a grant from The Community Chest Fund which insists that qualified instructors are vital in any sport.

· That the potential instructor be willing to undergo the CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure process to ensure they had someone they could allow to work with young people.

Dave Chadwick turned out to be the answer to their prayers.

He attended a mentoring session of 2/3 hours at Criccieth and was shown the basic syllabus to follow in instructing beginners and young pople.  He took away with him the syllabus and guidelines along with a Coaching Diary to complete as he carried out his coaching.

He was then invited to a NCD (National Coaching Day) at Criccieth in early August where he was able to witness at close quarters 2 different qualified coaches in action.

On his own green at Llanfair PG he was again mentored when he felt ready over a 2 hour period by a qualified coach as he instructed 2 junior bowlers using the syllabus.  The coach was able to make important developmental points to him as he progressed through the syllabus.

Finally he was assessed, again by a qualified coach, on his own green.  He chose to work with 2 juniors for this assessment; one of whom was very new to the sport.  We are delighted to state that he passed with flying colours.

The entire process took some 7 weeks.  This is exceptional, but it can be done by a determined person.  The outcome is that Llanfair PG now have a fully qualified instructor, cleared by the CRB to work with beginners and young people.

Congratulations Dave.  You may well be the only qualified Crown Green Instructor in Anglesey.
